World Tourism Day 2025

Today, we join the global community in celebrating World Tourism Day 2025 under the theme: “Tourism and Sustainable Transformation.”

This theme reminds us of the urgent need to embrace environmentally conscious travel — making mindful choices that protect our planet, uplift local communities, and leave a lasting legacy for generations to come. Tourism is more than movement; it is transformation, sustainability, and unity.

Here in Lagos, the spirit of celebration takes on a deeper meaning. On this day, we also remember the vision of the Late Ozo Chiedu Idezuna (Ezemmuo Afrika), convener of the Eko New Yam Festival, who tirelessly promoted peace and cultural harmony among the diverse ethnic groups in Lagos.

The 17th Edition of the Eko New Yam Festival, organized by Castledown Arts Center, Ibeju-Lekki, coincides with today’s World Tourism Day. Though the convener has departed, the festival lives on in the hearts of enthusiasts, friends, and lovers of African heritage across the world.

As we celebrate, let us honor his legacy, cherish our cultural diversity, and commit ourselves to sustainable tourism practices that respect people, culture, and nature.

May the soul of Ezemmuo Afrika rest in perfect peace. His vision continues to inspire us all.

His vision lives on, inspiring us to embrace culture, protect the planet, and celebrate diversity.
